European Country | | | | French, English and Italian furnishings combine with German, Russian and Spanish artwork to embellish this European country-style home. Warm Mediterranean colors prevail in fabrics, walls and rugs. Hand-made lampshades glow with soft golden light. An antique French bar defines the dining room, where 16th Century hand-carved angels flank a beautiful European armoire. Slipcover dresses over French bergere chairs keep the room from taking itself too seriously. A two-foot thick arch opens to the family room, where old French shutters adorn the doorway and a colorful art collection anchors the wall.
| Bright & Bohemian | | | | This renovated San Francisco French laundry is home to a charming collection of richly patterned textures, contemporary artwork and second hand treasures. Anything goes here - the dining room centers around a Ralph Lauren country pine table covered with a colorful yet funky Kilim rug. An elegant Victorian planter anchors the rug, while a classic crystal chandelier sparkles above. A striking piece of abstract art adorns the wall. The gray and black kitchen comes alive with persimmon walls and red accents. The same persimmon walls dominate the landing, where textiles and artwork inspire all who enter.
| California Asian | | | | This North Beach Victorian combines butter-colored walls with blue accents reminiscent of the adjacent San Francisco Bay. Chinese antiques and accessories juxtapose Northern California artwork in the living room and a whimsical chandelier in the dining room. Both fireplaces, which were originally panted white and had white marble surrounds, now sparkle with colorful handmade tiles and high-gloss paint. Red, yellow, blue and green plaid chairs enliven the living room, adding warmth to the cool blue tones in the area rug and fireplace tiles.
| Cool & Eclectic | | | | Nestled on a hillside, this island home reflects blues and greens from the San Francisco Bay, yet warmth prevails at every turn. Terra cotta colored walls provide the perfect backdrop for the cool-toned dining room hutch, which boasts a gleaming glass collection. Blue-green pillars between the living and dining rooms stand in simple contrast to the eclectic collection of furniture, art and accessories. A whimsical hand-painted screen, plaid window treatments and a Donghia chaise longue combine the enticing colors, shapes and textures.
| Magical Child's Retreat | | | | This little girl's bedroom gets its magical feeling from the garden-themed faux-painted walls, whimsical birdhouse bed and colorful window seat. Little Miss Muffet stools provide a lift to hang doll clothes up to dry and reach important books in the birdhouse bookcase. Mice of all sizes gather in nooks and crannies to keep this little girl company as she dreams and plays in this magical room.
| Geometric Color | | | | Lively and vivid colors in the furnishings and golden hues in the carpet and walls create a design that is both contemporary and warm. A geometric theme prevails, with circles, zig-zags, stripes, squares and half-rounds unifying the furniture, architecture and colors. The checkerboard floors and spiral carpet design connect in a playful way, while the curves of the lime green chairs and staircase mimic each other. The colors and geometric design from the living room are repeated in the kitchen.
| Eclectic Color | | | | Classic Chinese design elements and antiques combine with sophisticated European fabrics, trims and furnishings to create this eclectically crafted home. Color makes a statement in each room through glowing plaster walls, textured patterned fabrics and luminous lampshades. Whimsical details and contemporary elements keep this sophisticated home from taking itself too seriously.
| Colorful Cottage | | | | The furnishings in this country cottage combine French, Italian, Spanish and English elements, creating a European ambiance with rustic elegant details. The walls are faux painted to achieve a depth and intensity of color and to simulate wear and age. Thick archways connect rooms, French doors connect to the outside, and colorful fabrics in gold, orange and green combine to create a Mediterranean palette. In the kitchen, cream washed pine cabinets are topped with antique French pavers and embellished with French wrought iron hardware. Colorful Italian pottery adorns shelves, and a collection of French confit pots sparkles on the counter.
| Whimsical Contemporary | | | | This San Francisco loft combines a contemporary, industrial look with a whimsical, colorful outrageousness. The cool concrete floors are warmed by lots of color, texture and interesting shapes in the carpeting, ottomans and throw pillows. The salmon-colored shuttered armoire, hand-blown glass ducks, and folk art peacock in the birdcage make a whimsical statement. Layer and texture are created by the red bookcase, which stands behind the combed library table, bordered by two playfully patterned chairs. Whimsical ball-and-wire pulls on the cabinets continue the feeling in the kitchen, where an antique cabinet hung above the concrete countertops offers an unexpected contrast to the otherwise contemporary design
| Traditional Elegance | | | | The traditional feeling of this newly built living room is created by the dramatic architectural elements - high vaulted ceilings, a grand Rumsford fireplace, and towering red bookcases. The rustic gold concrete floors contrast with the elegant antique crystal chandelier, and richly colored walls are balanced by the dark green windows. Furnishings are kept very soft by using slipcovers with faded-looking fabrics, which give a look of age. In the kitchen, the same color scheme combines aged limestone counters with high-gloss tiles, and the high vaulted ceilings, backsplash and range hood all help draw the eye up. The cabinets are custom designed and finished to create the look of furniture. Outside the small family room, a patio with an elegant outdoor fireplace connects the indoor and outdoor living spaces.
