Rustic Elegance | | | | This remodeled 1920s home expresses Old World elegance, yet rustic touches throughout lend a comfortable informality. Warm toned plaster walls, distressed fir beams, mahogany windows and aged oak floors provide a glowing backdrop. Antique Corinthian capitals sit atop hand-made plaster pilasters. Concrete tiles stamped with an antique French mold adorn the library fireplace, while stained concrete corbels support its graceful mantel. Hand-made fleur-de-lys tiles grace the master bath. Aged and distressed onyx tops the kitchen island, and an old French iron chandelier glows above.
| Large-Scale Luxury | | | | The architecture and careful detailing of the fireplace and adjacent cabinets in this colorful guest house create an interesting focal point and highlight the scale of the room. Oversized checkerboard cabinets are reflected in the concrete checkerboard floor. Grand openings surrounded by crisp white moldings connect rooms. A half-wall between the kitchen and bedroom is filled with niches to hold colorful pottery. Warm plaster walls prevail throughout, grounded by splashes of gray in the kitchen hardware, counter, and fireplace screen.
| Cozy Cottage | | | | The feeling of space in this small 1950s tract home was enchanced by opening the walls, pitching the ceilings, and installing French windows and doors. An antique column defines the space where a wall once stood. Archways and thick plastered walls give this cottage a more substantial quality. Antique French pavers enhance an architectural niche in the kitchen. A small hallway bordered by shuttered doors leads to an enticing bathroom with pitched ceilings, custom mirrors and a small window that peeks out to the garden.
| Italian Country Villa | | | | The massive concrete fireplace serves as the focal point for this warm and inviting living room. The heavily textured overmantle contrasts from the walls, and combines with the concrete fireplace for a dramatic centerpiece. Floors made of antique Roman bricks and walls that are plastered and aged create an old-world ambiance. Concrete door surrounds and rustic beams contribute to this architecturally dynamic room. Elegant columns support beams in the stone-studded dining room, while large wooden planks bordered by cream colored grout add whimsy underfoot. The view from the ornate wrought iron staircase reveals a kitchen with aged limestone counters and large rustic armoires that hide the refrigerator and pantry.
