Outside looking ‘in’

Advancements in all-environment fabrics will have you living it up outdoors

BY TANYA HENRY

Have you noticed that outdoor living areas are looking spiffier than ever? Do some of your friends have backyards that are more comfortable and inviting than your own living room?     Thanks to the growing availability of "all-environment" fabrics, comfy upholstered furniture and designer pillows are popping up all over Marin County yards.
Sausalito designer Linda Applewhite is especially excited about the many outdoor decorating possibilities. “It used to be that Sunbrella was the only option available for outdoors, but now we have some fabulous fabrics to choose from.” She also advises to think “outdoor rooms” if you are considering an outdoor makeover. She can’t emphasize enough the importance of “comfort, comfort, comfort.” Some of her favorite fabrics are the Perennials line by Sutherland. She also raves about Pindler & Pindler’s...

Design In The Desert

As we announced last month, we are in the process of planning our first Southwest Seminar to be held September 29 and 30. We hope you will share a fabulous fall weekend with us in Santa Fe where green chiles will be roasting and we will be toasting our creativity and passion for design. While we are still in the process of planning the weekend, we have included a list of topics Linda will discuss during the September retreat.

We encourage you to make your hotel reservations as soon as possible as the last weekend in September is the "Wine and Chile Fiesta" in Santa Fe and many hotels are already booked.  We have reserved a block of rooms at both La Posada and the El Dorado Hotel in historic downtown Santa Fe but they are going fast.  Check our website for contact information and make your plans soon so you won't miss this spectacular weekend in Santa Fe.

In addition to the seminar and fiesta, Santa Fe's famous Canyon Road filled with historic adobes converted into over 90 fabulous art galleries hosts many openings on Friday night where you can meet local artists, hear music and sample wine and wonderful New Mexican treats. Plus, the Santa Fe Design Center is open for viewing fabulous furnishings, light fixtures, textiles, and accessories on Saturday, September 29th located close to the seminar hotels in downtown Santa Fe.

Seminar Program

After having toured Linda's newly restored adobe on Saturday night in Santa Fe's historic Eastside, she will show "before" photos and discuss details of the renovation to help you with your own project including:

Respecting your home's architecture and site while you plan a fabulous facelift

Designing a new floorplan for the way you live today

Looking for the bones - discovering your home's "character potential"

Connecting your rooms - indoors and out

Finding your way through the "F" maze - selecting fixtures and finishes

For the love of color - creating your own personal palette

Furnishing your rooms from the floor up - a step by step guide

                 Secrets for selecting awesome accessories

Combining and layering colorful fabrics and textiles
