Bones and Beauty
Linda and the
Design in the Desert seminar received some very nice press coverage from the Santa Fe New Mexican (photo above by Jane
Phillips) and the Albuquerque Journal before the event last month. Both publications interviewed Linda at length about her design
philosophy, passion for color, connection to Santa Fe, and her second seminar in the Southwest.

SU CASA FALL ISSUE Creating Harmony in Small Bathrooms
In
her column in the current issue of Su Casa Magazine (Fall 2008),
Linda talks about how she faced the task of
renovating three unattractive and outdated bathrooms in
her historic Santa Fe adobe. Her
solutions included using vertical space to visually expand the small
rooms, creating harmony with color and finishes, and adding dramatic
accessories
for touches of boldness and soul. Here is an excerpt from the
article, and you can click on the link below to read the
whole column and

The
bathroom provides a place where we start the day by preparing ourselves
for the world and
end our day before retiring for a restful night’s sleep. These
important rooms are essential to our well-being and should be both
functional
and nurturing at the same time. We often overlook bathrooms’ beauty in
favor of functionality, but there’s no reason you can’t
achieve both of these goals in your home.
Creating
beautiful bathrooms can be a rewarding endeavor, challenging you to
design spaces
that work with today’s lifestyle while respecting your home’s
architecture. Because these spaces are small, they require creative
solutions to make them feel as large as possible while providing the
functional elements necessary for comfortable living. Embellish your
bathrooms
with color, harmony, light, and art for beautiful rooms that will feed
your senses and nurture your soul as you start and end your day.

Highlights
from
Design in the
Desert
September 26-28,
2008
Santa Fe, New
Mexico
Waxlander Gallery
We kicked off the weekend's activities
with a wonderful reception at the Canyon Road gallery of renowned water colorist Phyllis Kapp,
who we were honored to have in attendance. Gallery director Bonnie
French
and her team lavished us with an extravagant spread of food and wine,
which we all enjoyed as we admired the bold and colorful work of
all the
artists on display, and got acquainted. http://www.waxlandergallery.com/
The Grande Dame
Our guests
loved touring the historic compound where impressionist artist Kirby
Kendrick
lives and works in Santa Fe. We even got to meet Shannon Farnsworth,
the local artisan who implemented the decorative painting on
the Dame's walls, which are brightly colored yet richly distressed to
harmonize with the adobe's true age.
Casita Alegria
Everyone
agreed that Linda's renovation of her historic
eastside adobe is even more stunning in person than in the pages of Su
Casa Magazine, where it has appeared on the cover and in her monthly
column.
Linda led the tour of finishes and furnishings while guests
enjoyed delicious Southwestern specialties from Peas 'n' Pod catering
in Santa Fe.
The photo above shows the Casita's living room, adorned with
dahlias from the Santa Fe Farmer's Market in anticipation of the
evening's
festivities.
On
Sunday,
Linda and her team welcomed attendess to La Posada de Santa Fe,
one of the oldest resorts in the City, for a day of colorful learning
and
inspiration. |

Sherwin-Williams Color Trend 2009
Presentation
Many thanks again to Sherwin Williams Paint Company for sponsoring our
cocktail party on Sunday and providing STIR Magazines and Concepts in Color
fan decks for our gift bags. The bags also included two
copies of Su Casa Magazine and one of Linda's Appleglow
candles. S-W Designer Account Executive Ismahan El-Frih told us what we
can
look forward to in 2009 color trends, complementing the
seminar's focus on color, and demonstrated in the houses we toured
over the
weekend.

We all enjoyed the weekend every bit as much as our fabulous
guests did. We loved getting to know you and look forward to seeing you again.
Thanks so much for coming!

Snapshots
from
Santa Fe
You
would have thought we'd all known each
other for years. Husbands & wives, mothers &
daughters, partners and old friends attended from New
Mexico and across the
country. They came for ideas for remodeling their adobes,
insight into how to add color to their rooms, inspiration for
remodeling
Mediterranean and Traditional homes, or creating a Southwest feel
to homes in other parts of the country. Some were students anxious
to
enter the field of interior design, and some were seasoned designers
wanting to expand their horizons.
The Grande Dame is a true artist's retreat,
filled with history and soul (and of course, art!)
In
Casita Alegria's living room,
guests get a close up view of the room's many textures: distressed
cabinetry, faux-painted walls, viga ceilings & original kiva
fireplaces

Judging by the comments on our feedback forms,
everyone was glad they came:
"The workshop re-energized me to look at my
home in a new light."
"...one of the best experiences of my
life."
"Thank you so much for revolutionizing my
thinking... with the principles given, I can accomplish a balanced, harmonious and peaceful home."
"I have given myself permission to love color
and not be intimidated by it."
"Energetic, joyful,
informative, delightful"
