TH calls Casita Alegria
"a showplace of thoughtful design,
rich with detail, beauty, and
a sizzling color
scheme."

TRADITIONAL
HOME
comes to
Casita
Alegria
It was very exciting when Traditional Home came to Santa Fe
for two days in August to shoot Linda's Casita Alegria
for the magazine's upcoming issue about color. Now that
the eight-page,
full-color spread is finished, we wanted to share it with
you. Here is some of what TH senior design & style
editor Krissa
Rossbund had to say about the old adobe and Linda's use
of color:
"The key
to Linda's Southwest masterpiece is a spectrum of spicy
colors that she used to saturate the house with warmth and an overall
glow. Subdued variations of red, yellow, and orange dissolve into each
other in
a pleasing way that makes it difficult to determine where one color
stops and another one begins."
The entire article with ten new photos will be
in the February/March issue of Traditional Home, on stands January 13 and on the magazine's website in mid-January at www.traditionalhome.com. Many thanks to Krissa, photographer James Carriere and producer Sarah Alba for including us in
this special issue.
Color Your New
Year |
|
And
speaking of color, the cold, dark days of
January are a great time to make one New
Year's resolution you can keep all year - to add color to
your life. Color has a
vibrational quality and is nurturing and healing. In her Su Casa
column, "Living in Beauty," Linda talks about how to find
your personal color palette instead of just following the current
color trends. Here is an excerpt from the column, along with a few
quotes
about color from some of her favorite artists. You can read the entire
article at http://www.sucasamagazine.com/.

Afraid of Color" Excerpted from Su Casa, Winter 2009 Issue
Developing Your Personal Color
Palette
To
determine the colors that you really resonate with,
start with nature. Stand at your windows and look at the colors in your
landscape or drive to a vista that you are attracted to and soak in the
colors. Then look at the colors in your eyes, hair and palm of
your hand. Notice the colors of the clothing, dishes, artwork or
fabrics you
have chosen. Ask yourself what colors you truly love in your home and
what colors have been influenced by tradition or trends. Most likely,
you will
start to see your authentic colors coming through and repeating
themselves. Combine the colors that you like outside your home with the
colors you
like inside and you will have the basis for your palette - the three to
five colors you want to fill your home and garden with.
|
|
Your color palette should be repeated
throughout
your property in different ways. If painting your walls seems too
daunting at first, paint a bookcase or a few interior doors.
Paint the
inside of your nichos if you have any, or your bathroom
vanities. Try
painting a few of your dining room chairs, or take a risk and paint one
accent wall in your living room to give it some pizzazz. Next
spring,
plant flowers in your garden in colors that you love, or buy pots for
your patio that reflect the colors in your home’s interior. When
deciding
on colors and locations for outdoor plantings, stand inside as well as
outside, and connect the spaces with
color.
Transform
your home with colors you love, not the latest trendy shades you see in
design magazines or catalogs -
those will be "in" only until the next season rolls around. Instead,
select colors that authentically reflect you and your natural
surroundings. Instead of fearing color, celebrate and personalize
it! This exciting adventure just might change your life. Go
for it -
live in beauty with color!

Yaaaay, Team!
Say Hello to the Newest Members of Our LA&A

Janine at LA&A's West Coast Headquarters |
Please join us in
welcoming Janine Aurichio to our team. Janine started working with us in December, and has quickly become one of the family. She
is well prepared for her multi-faceted role with LA&A, having
received her design degree from the New York School
of Interior Design and an MBA in marketing from Columbia. Before
joining us, Janine was a designer and project manager at
Kimberlee Colvin
Interiors in Mill Valley, working on projects
ranging from residential interiors to model homes
to multi-unit developments. While
her earlier roles included extensive product and brand experience with
companies such as Revlon, Godiva Chocolate and Victoria's Secret
Beauty, we're
glad Janine decided to follow her true passion - interior
design. A native New Yorker, Janine loves living in Mill Valley
with her two dogs,
Wallace and Rupert, hiking the trails, and marveling at the
natural beauty of the Bay Area. |
Toby Wan Kenobi at LA&A's
Southwest Headquarters |
Meet Toby Wan
Kenobi, our new little mascot. Toby was a Christmas
present to Linda from
Santa Stuart, and it's great to have the sound of puppy paws
padding around the place again. He’s a Chuddle – half Chihuahua
and half Toy Poodle - and weighs all of three pounds but has
a huge personality. He’s spending January in Santa Fe, where
he’s learning about snow and climbing mountains. Next month, he’ll
return to Northern California where he will be bonding with
Linda’s cat, Tina, chasing seagulls, and getting his first taste of
sailing on the San Francisco Bay.
Here he is perched atop a pile of Linda Applewhite pillows at Casita Alegria. How's the view from up
there, Toby?
(Linda's "Over-the-Top" pillows are for sale in our website store. Toby loves them.) |
