EXTRAORDINARY HOMES CALIFORNIA

This month, Panache Partners, LLC released their long-awaited EXTRAORDINARY HOMES CALIFORNIA, a spectacular hardcover book that showcases the work of "extremely talented architects, designers and builders." We are excited to be included in this exclusive compendium, and honored to be in the company of some of the top professionals in these fields.

Glowing with warmth, the living room of this 1920s' Mediterranean home was transformed by installing concrete tiles around the original fireplace box to create a commanding focal point in the room.

The book opens with two of Linda's Marin County, California, projects: a 1920s Mediterranean-style home overlooking the bay in Belvedere, and a 1970s Tiburon contemporary with bold colors and dramatic shapes. In addition to the photos, publishers Brian Carabet and John Shand included profiles of each designer. We'd like to thank Anita Kasmar for her generous words, and share some of the text and photos with you:

"A naturally gifted artist to the core, Linda Applewhite is a talented painter and true master of color and light. Her inviting home interior designs glow with an incomparable radiance because of her exquisitie integration of seven all-important artistic principles: composition, balance, harmony, color, texture, light and aesthetics."

BELOW: Comfortable and cozy, this small but distinctive family room features an elevated fireplace surrounded by moulded concrete tiles, sculptural corbels and topped by a simple redwood mantel.

"She 'paints' each room composition with three-dimensional form, first creating architectural detailing and using broad sweeps of color as backdrops, adding custom contemporary or traditional furniture and fine art selections, always focusing on the important interplay of light within each space."

BELOW: Gray and gold concrete tiles cover the entrance to this contemporary home filled with vibrant colors, curves and patterns.

"In addition to her painterly flair is her lighthearted approach - her unexpected, whimsical elements have been known to elicit smiles."

BELOW: Donghia furniture in lime green, gold and apricot grace this 1970s' California ranch, which was refreshed to reflect today's contemporary standards.

"Each residence that Linda touches is an individual work of art and she never follows design trends - her homes are remarkably unique, yet timeless, which is the hallmark of the firm."

How to accent with pillows

“Pillows are the ultimate accessory,” says Marin designer Linda Applewhite. Pillows help “to create the look and feel that you want to convey in a room.” Applewhite says solid-color pillows without trim or ornamentation are appropriate in a sleek, contemporary room, while a room designed with pattern and color can use a pillow layered with multiple fabrics and trims to complement the room’s decor.
