Butterscotch
“The sun poured in like butterscotch and stuck to all my senses”
– “Chelsea Morning” by Joni Mitchell
Who could forget the images these words evoked the first time we heard Joni Mitchell sing Chelsea Morning? We felt the warmth of that sunlight as it shone through the window in her apartment, and we wanted to be magically transported to that room. Joni didn’t discover the effect sun has on our emotions, but her words described the way we knew we wanted to feel and the way we wanted our homes to feel: warm, inviting, sensual.
Butterscotch
I love that word which perfectly describes the silky golden light that pours into our lives this brilliant month of August. I have always believed in the power of the butterscotch colors of the sun to bring those Chelsea morning feelings into our homes.
Essence of Gold
So I have thrown open the windows and doors to let the sun shine in. I offer these four examples of how I use light and color to enrich my client’s rooms with the luxurious essence of gold.
“Oh won’t you stay, we’ll put on the day, there’s a sun show every second”
– “Chelsea Morning” by Joni Mitchell
Lovely!
I, too, love butterscotch, red, gold and green.
You’ve been missed.
Cynthia,
Apologies for my late response. I’m new to this blog technology and I just now found your sweet comment. Thank you for “getting” the importance of butterscotch. It’s so beautiful, isn’t it? And of course red, gold and green are too. You warm my heart with
“You’ve been missed”. Wow – I never dreamed of that being true. So thank you Cynthia.
You inspire me to continue writing and communicating with those of us us love Butterscotch!

My faux painter doesn’t call me Mary Lee Umber for nothing!!!
Mary Lee,
So great to see your smiling blog post comment. Thank you my long time, long distance friend for checking in. And I’m sure you and your faux painter appreciate “umber” together. Aren’t we lucky to work with and appreciate the magic of color?
Hope you well and happy in Michigan!
xo,
Linda
